Neonatal Hearing Screening

Neonatal hearing screening is a screening process for detecting hearing loss in newborn infants. Hearing loss in newborns is an important issue, as early identification and intervention of hearing loss can result in improved language and communication development and educational outcomes. Neonatal hearing screening is conducted through a health facility visit and consists of a set of tests that measure the inner ear's response to sound, including otoacoustic emissions (OAEs) and auditory brainstem responses (ABRs). These tests are non-invasive and low risk, providing valuable information about the newborn's hearing ability. The results of the screening are then used to determine whether an infant should receive further testing and/or treatment for hearing loss.
