Editorial Excellence Standards
JBTM editors play a critical role in maintaining the quality and integrity of published behavioral therapy research. These guidelines outline responsibilities, ethical standards, and best practices for manuscript evaluation to ensure fair, rigorous, and timely peer review processes for mental health submissions.
Editors are responsible for managing the peer review process for assigned manuscripts, ensuring timely and fair evaluation of behavioral therapy research submissions.
- Conduct initial screening for scope, quality, and ethical compliance
- Select qualified reviewers with relevant expertise in psychology and mental health
- Evaluate reviewer comments and make fair editorial decisions
- Communicate decisions clearly with constructive feedback to authors
- Maintain confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and author identities
- Monitor review timelines and send reminders as needed
Conflicts of Interest
Editors must recuse themselves from handling manuscripts where conflicts exist, including submissions from collaborators, institutional colleagues, or competitors. Disclose any potential conflicts to the Editor-in-Chief promptly.
Confidentiality
All submitted manuscripts must be treated as confidential documents. Editors may not share manuscript content or discuss submissions with unauthorized parties. Intellectual property of authors must be protected.
Editorial decisions should be based solely on manuscript quality, scientific validity, and relevance to behavioral therapy research. Decisions must be independent of author nationality, institutional affiliation, or personal characteristics. Editors should provide clear rationale for decisions to support author improvement.
Editors should complete initial screening within five business days of assignment. Reviewer invitations should be sent promptly. Target decision time is two to four weeks from submission for behavioral therapy manuscripts. Delays should be communicated to authors through the editorial office.
