Journal of Sleep And Sleep Disorder Research

Sleep as a biological process, the circadian systems that time it, the disorders that disrupt it, and the methods that measure it — with the behavioral, neurological, respiratory, psychological and wider health questions that follow from all four.

A thirty-second epoch scale across an eight-hour recording window An illustrative measurement rule. Eight hours are marked from 22:00 to 06:00, each hour subdivided into the thirty-second epochs by which sleep is scored. The scale is a reference drawing; it is not derived from a participant, a recording or a dataset. 22:0023:0000:0001:0002:0003:0004:0005:0006:001 tick = 2 epochs · 1 epoch = 30 s A thirty-second epoch scale across an eight-hour recording window An illustrative measurement rule. Illustrative reference — a scale, not a recording. Sleep is scored in consecutive thirty-second epochs; the journal is read the same way, one record at a time.
