Neisseria

meninigitidis Neisseria meningitidis is a bacteria that is a leading cause of bacterial meningitis and septicemia (blood poisoning). This bacteria is a Gram-negative diplococcus and is found in the upper respiratory system of humans, although it can spread to other parts of the body. It is particularly dangerous for infants, children, and adolescents. An infection with this bacteria, if left untreated, can lead to brain damage, hearing loss, and even death. Vaccines are available to prevent infection from this bacteria and there are antibiotics that can be used to treat it. Neisseria meningitidis is an important bacteria to be aware of and its spread should be prevented through the use of vaccines and proper hygiene. Be sure to get vaccinated and practice good hygiene to reduce the risk of infection.
