Journal of Memory (JM) follows rigorous editorial standards to ensure transparent, ethical, and high quality publication. Our policies protect authors, reviewers, and readers while maintaining scientific integrity.

Peer Review

Single Blind Review

JM uses a single blind peer review model. Reviewers know author identities to evaluate context and related work, while reviewer identities remain confidential. Decisions are based on scientific merit, methodological rigor, and relevance to memory research.

Editors aim to provide constructive feedback and a clear first decision within a reasonable timeframe. Reviewers are selected for subject expertise and the absence of conflicts of interest.

When reviews conflict, editors may seek additional expert input to ensure fair and balanced decisions.

Ethics

Research Ethics And Compliance

  • Ethics approval is required for studies involving human participants.
  • Informed consent statements must be included when applicable.
  • Animal studies must comply with welfare regulations.
  • Clinical studies should follow recognized reporting standards.

For vulnerable populations or sensitive data, authors must describe additional protections and oversight procedures.

Authorship

Author Contributions

All listed authors must meet authorship criteria and approve the final manuscript. JM encourages a contributor statement that outlines roles such as conceptualization, data collection, analysis, and writing.

Conflicts

Conflicts Of Interest

Authors, editors, and reviewers must disclose financial or personal relationships that could influence the work. Editors will recuse themselves when conflicts arise.

Integrity

Originality And Misconduct

All submissions are screened for originality. Plagiarism, duplicate publication, or data manipulation will result in rejection and may be reported to institutions.

  • Image or data manipulation is prohibited.
  • Proper citation is required for reused methods and content.
  • Redundant or salami publications are not accepted.

If misconduct is suspected, JM follows established procedures for investigation and may contact relevant institutions.

Ethics Oversight

Handling Ethical Concerns

JM evaluates ethical concerns on a case by case basis. When needed, editors may request raw data, additional documentation, or clarification from authors to verify results. This process supports transparency and protects participant welfare.

Data

Data Availability And Transparency

JM requires a data availability statement for all articles. Authors should provide repository links or explain access restrictions for sensitive data.

For computational or modeling studies, code and configuration files should be shared when possible to support reproducibility.

Reporting

Reporting Standards

JM supports the use of recognized reporting guidelines such as CONSORT, PRISMA, STROBE, and ARRIVE. Clear reporting improves transparency and accelerates review.

Preprints

Preprint Policy

Preprints are permitted. Authors must disclose preprint posting at submission and ensure the published article reflects any substantive updates.

AI Tools

Use Of AI Assisted Tools

AI tools may be used for language refinement but not for generating scientific conclusions. Authors remain responsible for accuracy and must disclose AI tools used in writing or analysis.

Corrections

Corrections And Retractions

If errors are identified after publication, JM issues corrections, expressions of concern, or retractions when needed. We maintain transparency to protect the scholarly record.

Confidentiality

Reviewer And Editor Confidentiality

Manuscripts are confidential documents. Reviewers and editors must not share or use unpublished work for personal benefit.

Reviewer Duties

Expectations For Reviewers

Reviewers should provide objective, constructive feedback focused on methodology, validity, and clarity. Reviews must be respectful, evidence based, and submitted within agreed timelines.

  • Declare conflicts of interest before accepting a review.
  • Evaluate methodological rigor and reporting transparency.
  • Suggest improvements without revealing reviewer identity.
  • Maintain confidentiality of manuscripts and data.
Editorial Duties

Editor Responsibilities

Editors manage the review process, ensure ethical compliance, and make fair, evidence based decisions. Editors are expected to act without bias and to prioritize scientific integrity over personal or institutional interests.

Appeals

Appeals And Complaints

Authors may appeal editorial decisions with a reasoned response. Appeals are reviewed by senior editors and may involve additional reviewers.

Editorial Independence

Decision Making

Editorial decisions are independent from commercial considerations. Article processing charges do not influence editorial outcomes.

Post Publication

Engagement And Corrections

JM welcomes post publication discussion and replication efforts that advance memory science. Readers may contact the editorial office with concerns or requests for clarification. When necessary, JM will issue updates or corrections to maintain the integrity of the scholarly record.
