Applied Mathematics

Overview

Applied mathematics is the use of mathematical methods, models, and analysis to solve concrete problems in science, engineering, and other fields. It encompasses areas such as differential equations, numerical analysis, optimization, and mathematical modeling, providing the quantitative tools to describe physical processes, predict behavior, and inform decisions. By translating real-world phenomena into mathematical form, applied mathematics enables systematic study of systems that would be difficult to analyze by observation alone. Within the scope of this journal, applied mathematics is represented by work that uses mathematical modeling to describe physical and biological processes. Examples include an analysis of the Marangoni effect in second grade forced convective flow of a water-based nanofluid, which applies the mathematics of fluid dynamics and heat transfer, and a study examining the reasons for increased social distancing and surface disinfection from a physics perspective. These works illustrate how mathematical and physical modeling can be applied to understand complex systems.
