A clear, supportive submission path for veterinary and One Health research.
Submit your veterinary manuscript to JVHC
Journal of Veterinary Healthcare (JVHC) is a peer reviewed, open access journal dedicated to veterinary healthcare, animal health research, and One Health outcomes. We publish evidence that improves clinical care, diagnostics, therapeutics, surgery, prevention, and population health across companion animals, livestock, and wildlife.
Our submission process is streamlined and transparent. Authors receive an acknowledgment within 72 hours, and the editorial office is available to guide you at each step.
JVHC actively welcomes practice relevant clinical and translational veterinary manuscripts, including case series with learning value, clinical trials, diagnostic and therapeutic studies, surgery and outcomes research, and evidence based guidelines. We also welcome epidemiology, One Health, and public health work that informs veterinary practice and population level decision making.
This scope reflects a unified veterinary healthcare mandate covering clinical care and outcomes, diagnostics, therapeutics, surgery, preventive medicine, infectious and non infectious diseases, herd and population health, One Health, epidemiology, and translational research across companion animals, livestock, and wildlife.
We accept a broad range of veterinary manuscript types to support clinical practice and policy translation.
- Original research articles and clinical trials.
- Systematic reviews, meta analyses, and evidence syntheses.
- Case reports and case series with documented learning value.
- Diagnostic validation studies and therapeutic evaluations.
- Evidence based clinical guidelines and consensus statements.
- Short communications, rapid reports, and translational briefs.
Choose the method that fits your workflow. All submissions are handled by the same editorial team and follow the same review standards.

To reduce scope confusion at the point of submission, the following examples illustrate the types of manuscripts JVHC actively welcomes:
- Case series with clear learning value that improve diagnostic or therapeutic decisions.
- Clinical trials evaluating treatment efficacy, dosing, or comparative interventions.
- Diagnostic accuracy studies for imaging, laboratory testing, or pathology.
- Surgical technique papers with outcomes, complications, and follow up.
- Evidence based guidelines or consensus statements grounded in clinical data.
- Epidemiology, One Health, or public health studies that inform practice or policy.
- Missing ethics approvals or owner consent statements.
- Unclear study design or incomplete methods description.
- Figures without legends or labels that explain findings.
- Inconsistent data between tables, results, and conclusions.
- References missing key citation details or DOIs.
Use reporting guidelines appropriate to your study type. ARRIVE is recommended for animal research, CONSORT for clinical trials, STROBE for observational studies, and PRISMA for systematic reviews. Use SI units, define abbreviations at first use, and ensure data tables and figures are consistent.
For case reports or case series, provide clear timelines, diagnostic pathways, and outcomes. High quality images should be labeled and anonymized. For clinical trials, include registration numbers and dates.
Provide a data availability statement for every submission. If data are shared, include repository name and DOI. If access is restricted due to owner privacy or legal agreements, explain the restriction and provide a contact pathway for qualified requests.
Data dictionaries and variable definitions are encouraged. Transparent data reporting supports reproducibility and increases the value of your research for clinical decision making.
All animal studies must comply with institutional and national welfare standards. Provide ethics approval numbers, owner consent for identifiable animal images, and details on humane endpoints when applicable.
- State the approving ethics committee and reference number.
- Confirm owner consent for clinical case information.
- Describe animal handling and welfare monitoring procedures.
References should be complete and accurate. Cite the first five authors followed by \"et al.\" for additional authors. Ensure all citations are included in the text and that DOIs are provided when available.
If revisions are requested, submit a point by point response to reviewer comments. Highlight manuscript changes and provide rationale when requested edits cannot be completed. Timely revisions help maintain publication momentum.
Accepted manuscripts move to production for copyediting, typesetting, and proof review. Authors approve proofs before publication. Articles receive DOIs, are indexed for discoverability, and remain archived in the journal record.
We encourage authors to share published links with clinical teams and professional networks to extend impact.
JVHC follows a structured peer review process. Typical review timelines are about 2 to 3 weeks, depending on reviewer availability and revision complexity. Editors may request additional review to ensure methodological rigor and clinical relevance.
JVHC is open access. APCs apply only after acceptance and support editorial management, peer review, production, and archiving. The average APC is approximately $2,400 USD, with student rates and partial waivers available. Details are listed on the APC page.
Authors from low and lower middle income countries may request partial waivers, and students can apply for the reduced APC rate with valid identification. Waivers are evaluated after acceptance to preserve editorial independence.
Frequent authors and institutions can reduce APCs through JVHC membership plans. Membership provides structured APC relief and streamlined billing for repeat submissions.
Membership also offers predictable budgeting for clinics and research programs.
Authors who want additional writing support can request language editing before submission. Editing is optional and does not influence editorial decisions. Contact the editorial office if you need clarity on this service.
JVHC publishes under a Creative Commons license that allows sharing and reuse with attribution. Authors retain copyright while granting the journal the right to publish and archive the work. If you include third party materials, obtain permission before submission.
Withdrawal requests must be confirmed by the editorial office. A withdrawal charge may apply if a manuscript is withdrawn after initial processing. Review APC policy details before submitting.
If you are uncertain about scope fit, send a brief summary and abstract to the editorial office. We can advise on appropriate article type and help you align your submission with JVHC priorities.
If you are uncertain about scope, article type, or formatting, contact the editorial office for guidance. We can help align your manuscript with the journal scope and ensure your submission meets ethical and reporting standards.
